Camping guide

Where to camp around Häädemeeste and southern Pärnu County

Camping here is not one generic field. Choose by the kind of night you need: RMK beach-forest camping, tent capacity, campervan access checks, summer services, or a quiet base for beaches and nature trails.

If you have just entered the parish, start here: the confirmed RMK campsite anchors are Lemme and Krapi; low-impact one-night camping may be possible elsewhere under freedom to roam, but not in private yards, signed private land or protected areas with stricter rules.

Largest service-backed choice

RMK Lemme campsite

RMK describes Lemme as a popular seaside pine-forest campsite with capacity for up to 50 four-person tents. It suits families, longer beach nights and travellers who may care about showers, sauna or a summer service house.

RMK Krapi campsite

RMK describes Krapi as camping under old coastal pines, with capacity for up to 30 four-person tents. It is better for a simpler nature night, sunsets and a quieter beach base.

Freedom-to-roam camping

RMK's freedom-to-roam guidance says you may stay and camp for up to one day where movement is allowed and the landowner has not forbidden it. That does not include making a fire, driving into the forest or setting up a multi-day camp.

RMK Rae järve campsite

The official RMK visitor-infrastructure dataset lists Rae järve telkimisala in Laiksaare village, Saarde vald. RMK's Rae järve trail page confirms camping, campsite well water, a lean-to, a covered fire place with grill grate and parking for 15 cars.

RMK Rae järv

Tent, car or campervan

With a tent

For the simplest low-risk answer, choose Lemme, Krapi or Rae järve. If you camp elsewhere for one night, use an already worn durable spot, stay away from homes, avoid damaging soil and leave without a trace in the morning.

By car or campervan

RMK lists a motorised-vehicle entry fee at Lemme. Krapi has parking details and prohibits off-road vehicle traffic. For campervans, check where you may drive and stand before arrival.

With a campfire

Only use prepared and permitted campfire places. RMK notes that firewood is not available at Krapi fire rings, so plan firewood or charcoal before reaching the coast.

Pair camping with beaches and trails

Lemme + Kabli beach

A strong summer pairing when you want to sleep near the sea and move between Kabli, Lemme and Treimani during the day.

Krapi + Treimani / Ikla direction

Better for a slower southern-coast drive when Pärnu city is not the target and the night should stay in the quieter beach forest.

Camping + Rannametsa-Tolkuse

Use the beach night as the base and add the bog, dunes and viewing tower as the daytime nature part. After rain, treat boardwalk and tower conditions cautiously.

Rae järv + Laiksaare / Nigula direction

When the beach is not the point, Rae järv gives you inland camping, lake water, forest road and a quieter Laiksaare-area plan. Note that it is beside Häädemeeste, but technically in Saarde vald.

Respectful nature use

  • RMK asks visitors to prefer existing trails, campsites and campfire sites to avoid adding pressure to nature.
  • The generally recognised quiet period at campsites and campfire sites is 23:00-6:00.
  • Carry rubbish out and make fires only in prepared places when fires are permitted.
  • Freedom to roam allows one-night camping in some places unless the landowner forbids it; on signed or fenced private land, you need permission.
  • In protected areas, the protection rules decide whether and where camping or fires are allowed. For Laiksaare-style inland forest plans, check the protection boundary before pitching a tent.

Camping FAQ

Is tent camping at Lemme free?

RMK says pitching a tent at Lemme is free, while motorised vehicle entry is paid in cash. Confirm the current detail on RMK before arrival.

Does Krapi work for campervans?

RMK lists parking and campsite access from the parking area. For campervans or larger vehicles, check the official access details before driving in.

Can I just camp anywhere in the forest?

Not anywhere. Estonian freedom to roam gives limited one-night camping rights where the landowner does not forbid it, but fires need permission and protected areas can set stricter rules.

What about Laiksaare?

Yes: RMK's dataset lists Rae järve telkimisala in Laiksaare village. It is the stronger inland answer, although technically in Saarde vald rather than Häädemeeste. For surrounding Laiksaare forest and protected areas, still check signs and RMK guidance.
